Ghost trains article published in Mobilities Journal

Thursday, 1 July 2021

I'm very happy to share the news that my article, "Ghost trains: past and future mobilities haunting a Southern Town" has been published in the journal Mobilities. The article uses rail links between my hometown of Ashland and the nearby capital Richmond to address legacies of segregation, Jim Crow and racial limitations on movement that have historically informed the American South.

I'm particularly thankful to editor Kevin Hannam for encouragement to submit the piece and use the uncanny figure of the ghost as a central means of engaging with these complicated histories. Also thanks to my colleague Tim Simpson and my extended network of Virginia family for their insights on early drafts.
