Introduction:
______________________________________________________________________________________
Hello and welcome to “tablechairwall.com,” my online home. I’m an anthropologist and artist working in a variety of new media. Currently, I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication at the University of Macau. I have a PhD in Anthropology from the University of Texas at Austin (May 2006). My dissertation, “Special Affect: Special Effects, Sensation, and Futures in Post-Socialist Bulgaria,” is a study of the commercial television industry in Bulgaria and its role in visualizing Bulgaria’s post-socialist/pre-EU future.

In my ethnographic work as in my media productions, I approach media as both material and as a set of practices. I am particularly interested in non-meaning based models of theory where affects and sensations are give as much weight as the politics of representation. Most recently, I have been researching the development of 3d animation, specifically the community around the open source software blender. This also includes working as an educator sharing the potential of an open source work flow.

In addition to my academic work, I also do contract work as a director of photography, designer, and photographer. I am always open to collaboration with artists and academics; so feel free to contact me with any possible projects or inquiries.
